Alarming report on insurance in Eastern Africa

Meeting for the first time in Kigali on June 8, 2009, the summit of African insurance and financial services has drawn up an alarming report on the state of insurance in East Africa.
The volume of written premiums in 2007 by the entire region is just 860 million USD. Only 3% out of the 100 million East Africans have a life insurance policy while over 90% of the same population has no insurance product at all.
