Amendment of unemployment insurance

The South African government has undertaken new legislative amendments to unemployment insurance, making the new draft more consistent with international standards. Coverage is henceforth extended to apprentices and staff members.

Compensation period is extended to twelve months instead of eight. The unemployed will be able to show up twelve months after the loss of his job and no longer after six months as previously specified. Other changes include the ability to select beneficiaries in the event of death.
