Blue Marble Microinsurance: testing stage still in progress

The company Blue Marble Microinsurance is a joint venture made up of several major insurers including particularly AIG, Aspen Insurance Holding, Guy Carpenter, Marsh McLennan, Hamilton Insurance Group, Old Mutual, Transatlantic Reinsurance Company, XL Catlin and Zurich Insurance Group.

In Zimbabwe, the company provides microinsurance services, especially designed for small corn producers. These products provide coverage against climate hazards such as droughts.

The approach adopted by Blue Marble Microinsurance to deal with levels of risks rests on the relationship between the areas cultivated and climate forecasts. Peasants have been hardest hit by a dry season that affected the southern part of Africa in 2015.
