Cargo: an alternative for airlines

cargoAirlines are not yet to recover from the crisis. Passenger traffic has indeed de-creased by almost 80% and the return to a normal activity is not expected before 2024.

The industry is now solely relying on air cargo transport and airlines aim to take over the market. In April, states and companies were competing for cargo planes to deliv-er medical equipment and masks from China. This might happen again as soon as a vaccine for Covid-19 is found.

To cope with the upcoming cargo boom, several airlines have converted part of their passenger fleets to cargo planes.

In 2020, freight is believed to represent 25% of the aviation market’s turnover (passengers and transported goods).
