Covid-19: lifting of patents on vaccines

On 19 May 2021, the European Commission outlined its plan to lift intellectual property on Covid-19 vaccines. However, the positions of the member states on this issue remain different. As an example, Germany is opposed to this proposal.

In the United States, the American president declared on 5 May that he supports the temporary lifting of patents.

It is worth recalling that South Africa and India have long advocated for a large-scale lifting of intellectual property rights on vaccines.
