Damages of the May 26 fire are estimated at 69 million USD

On May 26, 2003, the fire that devastated the industrial area of Tanjombato completely or partially destroyed ten companies, 8 establishments and several factories. Staple commodities warehouses, cars, household appliances, ‘'hi-fi'' and IT equipment were also destroyed. No human losses were registered.
