Earthquake insured losses could reach 900 million USD

According to the modeling agency AIR Worldwide, the cost of insured losses following the Chile earthquake would be between 600 and 900 million USD.

With a magnitude of 8.3 on the Richter scale, the quake occurred on September 16, 2015 in the center of country. Immediately, large waves lashed many coastal towns. Despite the power of the disaster, the death toll reported only 13 dead and 6 missing. The number of people affected rose to 9000. In material terms, 400 residential buildings were completely destroyed while 700 others suffered major damage.

As reminder, in 2010, Chile had been hit by a devastating earthquake of an 8.8 magnitude. This disaster had caused the death of 500 people and losses estimated at 30 billion USD.
