Economic cost of the revolution, 6.2 billion USD

Preliminary estimates of the economic losses suffered by Egypt following the revolution which toppled the regime of Mubarak reported losses of 6.2 billion USD. The finance ministry has revised its growth forecast downwards from 5.8% to 4% or even 3.5% for the current year.
Various measures have been put forward to revive the economy: establishment of a fund of 850.8 million USD designed to compensate the affected companies and a 15% increase of the public sector salaries as of April 1. The local market is also announcing insured losses amounting to 150 million USD.
