Expected mergers in the health insurance sector

Confronted with many challenges (pressure on costs, introduction of new "Obamacare" reforms race for size and low growth prospects in the segment of business contracts), the US market for health insurance is in full consolidation.

UnitedHealth, leader of the health insurance market with a turnover of 130.5 billion USD in 2014 has planned to purchase Aetna, third health insurer in the country which achieved a turnover of 58 billion USD in 2014.

For its part, Aetna is focusing its attention at its rival Humana (48.5 billion USD of premiums collected in 2014).
In addition, Cigna, fifth operator in the health market, has recently declined another merger offer made to it by the second health insurer in the country, Anthem.
