Fire in Jomo Kenyatta Airport

APA Insurance disbursed 1.47 billion KES (17.2 million USD) to Kenyan Airports Authority (KAA). This is an unsettled amount owed by the insurer to KAA after the fire that ravaged the arrival terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on August 7, 2013.

A first payment of 500 million KES (5.8 million USD) was made last December. Loss adjustment report concluded that an electrical fault was at the origin of the disaster. The total loss was estimated at 1.97 billion KES (23 million USD). Africa Re, East Africa Re, Kenya Re, Swiss Re and Zep Re are the main reinsurers affected by this loss.
