Forecasts of 6% to 7% insurance growth in 2012

The general secretary of the Tunisian federation of insurance companies (FTUSA), Kamel Chibani has estimated that insurance premiums are poised to grow by 6% to 7% in 2012. This modest progression is quite an achievement in view of the difficulties sustained in 2011.
One negative point: the results of motor insurance are deteriorating after years of relative stability. This class of business is reporting a technical and financial result decreasing by 20 million TND (12.7 million USD). This is due to the high number of road crashes which accounted for 1338 deaths and 1374 injuries over the first 10 months. A premium increase is expected for this class of business.
Fire insurance is poised to restore its usual balance now that the social situation is back to normality. Indemnifications disbursed for fire claims leapt by 268.8% in 2011 at 105 million TND (70.2 million USD) following the revolution and the trouble that ensued.
