Foreign insurers struggling with the market

The strong economic activity witnessed by China, its large population and the powerful rise of the middle class are attractive factors to many investors, except for foreign insurers who do not take advantage of this situation.

Non Chinese life insurers have increased their market share from 4% in 2011 to 5.6% in 2013, but which remains below the 8.5% reported in 2005. The situation is even worse in non life insurance where foreigners account for only 1.3% of the sector's turnover.

Despite these difficulties, 41 foreign insurance companies have settled in this market while many other insurers set foot on the country by opening representation offices there.
