Frenzy of mergers and acquisitions in the American insurance industry

In one week, the M&A transactions reached 89.6 billion USD. Two takeovers and one merger are behind such flows:

  • The Humana purchase by the insurer Aetna: 37 billion USD
  • The acquisition of the American non-life insurer Chubb by the Swiss ACE: 28 billion USD
  • The merger between the broker Willis and Towers Watson (American consulting firm): 18 billion USD

Through these initiatives, insurers seek to generate more cash in order to bear more risk and face the new changes affecting insurance in the world and the in the United States in particular.
