Half year toll of natural and manmade catastrophes

According to latest figures published by Swiss Re, all catastrophes of the 1st half of 2014 have a total economic cost of 44 billion USD, with 3 billion USD going to manmade catastrophes.

Insured losses linked to natural catastrophes have amounted to 19 billion USD, of which 2.6 and 2.5 billion USD are respectively for thunderstorm and hail in the United States (in May) and storm Ela in Europe (in February).

Insured damages of manmade catastrophes (terrorism, etc) have represented, in the same period, a total of 2 billion USD.
