Heavy bill following the Paris attacks

According to the law in force, damage caused by the deadly attacks in Paris on 13 November 2015 will be covered by the guarantee fund for victims of terrorism attacks and other offenses (FGTI). For this single event, the FGTI should manage nearly 4000 claims, that is more cases than those reported since its creation in 1986. Death benefits (moral and material damage) as well as care costs and allowances for any serious or minor injury will be supported by the fund. As the events occured on the French territory, compensation concerns all victims regardless of their nationality.

As at November 13, 2015, the FGTI was equipped with a fund of 1.2 billion EUR (1.29 billion USD). Its resources come from a tax of 3.3 euros (3.54 billion USD) collected on each insurance policy. This tax will rise to 4.3EUR (4.62 billion USD) on 1st January 2016. The first payments began on November 20, 2015.
