Implementation of unemployment insurance from 1 September 2014

According to Abdullah Al-Abdaljabbar, Director General of Media of the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI), the unemployment insurance scheme announced in December 2013 will come into effect on September, 1 of the current year.

Called Saned Insurance, the scheme will be introduced in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and the Human Resources Development Fund. Membership is compulsory for both government and private employees.

As a reminder, Saned Insurance provides monthly compensation over a period of 12 months to any employee losing his job due to circumstances beyond its control.
