Increase in the number of uninsured vehicles

According to the guarantee fund for compulsory non life insurance (FGAO), the number of vehicles without insurance is increasing. Although a small decline was noted between 2012 and 2013, the increase based on the number of cases processed is of 28.4% since 2008.

FGAO, whose mission is to compensate victims of road accidents caused by uninsured or unidentified vehicles, estimated that the number of uninsured cars is comprised between 370 000 and 740 000 in 2013.
This is 1% to 2% of drivers on the road. Nearly 6% of the fatal accidents reported in 2013 involved uninsured vehicles with 192 deaths out of a total of 3250.
