Insurance fraud amounts to 1.2 billion USD per year

According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), fraudulent claims cost 800 million GBP (1.2 billion USD) per year, that is, 2.2 million GBP (3.4 million USD) per day. These costs weigh heavily on personal lines insurance premiums which they increased by 44 GBP (68 USD) on average.
Frauds have, particularly, affected housing insurance where 170 false claims were made each day. Motor insurance is less affected by this scourge.
