Insurance: Mergers and acquisitions at the first half of 2018

According to Willis Towers Watson (WLTW) and Mergermarket's report, the mergers and acquisitions amounted to 37 billion EUR (42.92 billion USD) for 84 transactions in total, during the first half of 2018. This level has never been reached since the financial crisis of 2008.

The tax reform in the United States and the changes in business models account for this renewed interest in mergers and acquisitions. Companies are no longer hesitant to give up whole parts of their business while investors are increasingly interested in insurance.

The report points out, however, that the Brexit and trade tensions between the United States and China could hinder this movement.
