Insurers are considering distribution by mobile phone

Kenyan insurers are hoping to standardize services offered by telephone operators. A harmonization of payments would allow them to fully exploit the possibilities of insurance policies distribution through mobile phones.
Insurers also want mobile phone numbers to remain unchanged when subscribers change operators. This facility would allow them to monitor data pertaining to the insured: payment reminder, premium payment, notification of loss. Today, 93% of Kenyans own a mobile phone, 73% of them use it to make payments.
