Insurers are urging the State to develop compulsory covers

The Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) is asking the State to extend the range of compulsory insurance with a view to boost the market. The premiums collected by the sector amount to 64.5 billion KES (889 million USD) in 2009, that is, a 16% growth over one year. The authorities seem to be reluctant to do something about this situation, attributing these poor figures to the lack of innovating spirit among the insurers.
