Marine losses, 94 cases reported worldwide in 2013

According to the study "Safety and Shipping Review 2014" published by Allianz Global Corporate & Speciality (AGCS), the number of marine losses — vessels over 100 tons — in 2013 stood at 94 (-20% compared to 2012), the sinking being the most common cause. Asian waters recorded the greatest number of losses:

  • 35 cases in the Far East, sub-regions "South China, Indochina, Indonesia, Philippines"and"Japan, Korea, North China" spot respectively 18 and 17
  • 6 cases in the Arabian Gulf
  • 5 cases in the Bay of Bengal

Also note 9 losses to the sub-region "Eastern Mediterranean, Dead Sea".

Distribution on the edge of Africa is as follows:

  • West Africa: 8 cases
  • East Africa: 4 cases
  • Western Mediterranean: 3 cases
