Some policies may be up to 100 million USD. Several factors are driving these oligarchs to seek solutions abroad and especially in Hong Kong. The fear of losing their fortunes after an economic shock or an arbitrary decision by the Chinese authorities is among the main concerns. Underwriting mega policies abroad has other benefits, including an annual return of 4% in Hong Kong compared to 2.5% in mainland China and premiums less expensive than those paid to local insurers.
