MENA, decline of the non-life insurance market in 2018

The non-life insurance premiums achieved by the 14 MENA countries amounted to 47.158 billion in 2018 USD, decreasing by 4.1% in comparison with the 49.078 billion USD of 2017.

menaThe largest declines were recorded in Iran (-16.7%), Turkey (-16.7%) Egypt (-3.2%). However, Kuwait reported a strong increase in its non-life premiums (+14.9%), followed by Morocco (+7.7%) and Jordan (+6.6%).

The MENA insurance market remained highly monopolized by the non-life sector, which accounted for 82.8% of market share in 2018 against 81.9% in 2017. Two countries only, Morocco and Egypt, are endowed with a more or less balanced life and non-life portfolio.
