Mergers and acquisitions expected among MENA reinsurers in the next two years

A wind of mergers and acquisitions could affect reinsurers in the MENA zone over the next two years. As in most other parts of the world, needs of economies of scale are playing out.

But regional reinsurers are facing fierce competition from large continental and Bermudan reinsurers in addition to those of the London market.
None of these regional reinsurers is providing ceding companies with a differentiated offer, while the influx of capacity in the MENA region continues to increase.

Moreover, the results in fire insurance are poor. According to Farid Chedid, CEO of Chedid Re, these factors combined contribute to a future concentration of the reinsurance market in Africa and the Middle East.
