Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance confirms the possible acquisition of Amlin

Mitsui Sumitomo has confirmed being interested in the purchase of Amlin. The Japanese reinsurer would be willing to pay 4.1 billion USD to complete the transaction.

The Japanese insurers' interest in investing abroad comes at a time when growth prospects are almost nonexistent in Japan.
As a reminder, Sumitomo Life Insurance, life company of the same conglomerate acquired during the summer of 2015, the entire US life insurer Symetra Financial Corporation for an amount of 3.8 billion USD.

Founded in 1903, Amlin specializes in reinsurance. The group comprises three main companies: London (Syndicate 2001), Zurich and Bermuda. The turnover achieved in 2014 is of 2.564 billion GBP (3.982 billion USD).
