More than 5 000 deaths reported after the earthquake

To date, estimates of the human losses caused by the 7.8 magnitude-earthquake which hit Nepal on Saturday April 25th, totaled 5057 deaths.

Economic losses would be of about 2 billion USD, to which 800 million USD should be added for the damage recorded in India. According to Kinetic Analysis Corp., the insured losses would be less than 1% of this total.

The Indian reinsurer, General Insurance Corporation (GIC Re) which is very affected by this disaster has dispatched a team of experts in Nepal to assess the damage.
