Motor insurance, an increase of fines in study

A bill aimed at reducing the lack of civic-mind of motor vehicle owners has been submitted.
The text, named "Road Transport & Safety Bill" (RTSB), includes among others, the increase of fines pitched for lack of insurance, drink-driving and accident resulting in the death of a child.

The fine for lack of insurance, currently of 16.3 USD for all types of vehicles, according to RTSB's proposals, should increase to:

  • 163 USD for motorcycles
  • 408 USD for light motor vehicles and rickshaws
  • 1223 USD for cars and trucks.

As a reminder, a study conducted by New India Assurance has shown that 70% of motorcycles and scooters, 35% of cars and trucks are not insured.
