Munich Re has opened a life branch in Japan

Munich Re is consolidating its presence in Japan despite the economic crisis that has hit the country and its aging population. Munich Re is set on a strategy for the development of its life class of business which rose from 24% in 1999 to 39% of the portfolio in 2009. The decentralization of the Asian life business underwriting has resulted in the opening of nine life branches in the region where it is reporting an overall turnover of 3.3 billion USD.
