Munich Re is assessing the damages caused by the natural catastrophes in Japan and Florida

The first world reinsurer, Munich Re estimates that the four hurricanes that hit Florida and the typhoons which fell on Japan have caused damages amounting to 50 billion USD out of which 20 to 35 billion are insured. Damages estimate for the main reinsurers are as follows:

  • Munich Re: 500 millions USD.
  • Swiss Re: 600 millions USD.
  • Groupe XL Capital: 345 million USD for only Charley, Frances and Ivan.
  • Hannover Re: 170 million USD for Charley, Frances and Ivan.
