Natural catastrophes account for 55 billion USD of economic losses

Natural events have economic losses estimated at 337.4 billion CNY (55 billion USD) in 2014. Out of the 244 million people affected by these catastrophes, six million were displaced and more than 1 580 were killed.

Nearly 450 000 homes were completely destroyed and another 3.5 million were damaged. Nearly 25 million hectares of farmland were damaged.

In 2013, the economic losses caused by natural events were much higher as they amounted to 580 billion CNY (94.9 billion USD).
