Natural catastrophes cost 125 billion USD in 2013

According to a study conducted by Munich Re and published in early January 2014, natural catastrophes caused 125 billion USD of damages in 2013, 31 billion USD of which sustained by insurers.

Used with permission from Microsoft (image modifiée) A month earlier, in December 2013, Swiss Re already announced an amount of 130 billion USD for such events, a figure below the average estimates of the last ten years. In 2012, the cost of these catastrophes amounted to 196 billion USD.
In 2013, natural events have claimed the lives of nearly 25 000 people, with typhoon Haiyan alone accounting for 7000 deaths.
