New insurance regulations in Uganda

lawsUganda's Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) is developing ten new regulations in accordance with the Insurance Act 2017. This strategy began in 2019 and continues in 2020 with tougher measures.

The recent laws aim essentially at better protecting the interests of policyholders and introducing new prudential requirements. The latter relate mainly to microinsurance, licensing, payment of premiums, reinsurance, capital adequacy and mobile insurance applications. The new laws will come into force in 2020.
