Road accidents cost nearly 1 billion USD

According to a study conducted by the Algerian union of insurance and reinsurance companies (UAR), road accidents weigh heavily on the country's economy. Insurance companies record nearly 1 million claims and between 25 000 and 30 000 bodily injuries accidents per year. Still according to the published document, all damage amounts to 100 billion DZD (931.61 million USD). The human factor is responsible for 90% of accidents. Algerian car park has 5.4 million vehicles nearly half of which are over 20 years of age.

In 2014, motor insurance accounted for 52% of the market overall premiums which amounted to 126 billion DZD (1.441 billion USD).
