Space insurance, loss of a satellite

The Ariane 5 rocket, launched on October 28, 2010, failed to orbit the W3B Eutelsat Communications' satellite, designed for television. The latter seems to have been lost soon after its launch, thus, causing a loss of 240 million EUR (324 million USD) for the insurers of the launcher. So far, it is the largest claim on the space insurance market. This loss takes into account the satellite replacement and launch cost as well as ground services .
