The 2015 disasters cost insurers 32 billion USD

According to Sigma report, published on 18 December 2015, the overall economic losses related to natural disasters in 2015 amounted to 85 billion USD, down by 24% from 2014. The insured losses represent 27.2% of the total that is 32 billion USD, down by 11% compared to the previous year.

Insured losses are nevertheless experiencing contrasting developments. Those due to natural disasters are decreasing while those of human origin are rising and standing at 9 billion USD against 7 billion USD in 2014.

As a reminder, the explosion which occurred last August in the Chinese port city of Tianjin, alone, cost 2 billion USD to insurers.
