The agents’ network is losing its density

According to the national insurance board (CNA), the number of insurance agencies on the territory in 2011 dwindled down by 8.4% compared to 2010. This decrease was mainly attributed to GAM (Générale d’Assurance Méditerranéenne), whose network went from 364 agencies in 2010 to 198 a year later.
While state-owned insurers are reporting three-quarters of the sector’s turnover, this trend is less obvious at the level of the collections reported in agencies. Only 58% of premiums written by the general agents’ network are made for the benefit of the public sector, compared to 42% in the private sector.
