The coastal towns facing the rising cost of floods

According to a study conducted by Nature Climate Change, the amount of damages caused by floods in the 136 largest coastal cities of the world would amount to 1000 billion USD by 2050 if no preventive measures were implemented.

The study reveals that the most vulnerable cities are Miami, New York, New Orleans and Guangzhou (China). Sufficient measures and works are likely to reduce the cumulative cost to 50 billion USD by 2050. In 2005, the bill amounted to 6 billion USD.
