The cyclone Gonu hits the Gulf of Oman

A rare phenomenon in the region, a violent cyclone baptised Gonu has lashed on June 4, 2007 the Gulf of Oman.

Equivalent to a force 5 hurricane, the storm has affected the Sultanate's coasts, the United Arab Emirates where it caused considerable material damage with 32 victims claimed, 20 000 people evacuated along with the disruption of air traffic and oil production.
