The Maltese insurance market generates 1.7 billion EUR of premiums

The Maltese insurance market is undergoing remarkable growth. From 2008 to 2012, premiums written by all insurers jumped by 439% to reach almost 1.7 billion euros (2.2 billion USD) in 2012.

The number of insurance companies has been growing over the past five years. Today, the island counts 66 insurers, eight of which operate on the local market while the remainder is made up of captive and underwriting agencies that accept risks across Europe.
