The ministry of finance is pushing for innovation

Seth Terkper, Ghana’s finance minister, has recommended that local insurance companies distribute innovative life and non life insurance products. Insurance penetration rate in GDP does not exceed 2%, a rate too low to support economic activity.

S. Terkper is advocating the marketing of coverages catering for health, microinsurance and agricultural classes of business in order to help people fight off poverty and to promote the development of small and medium enterprises.
A robust insurance industry is likely to provide alternative equities for SMEs on the medium-term basis.
