The motor insurance market

According to the annual report elaborated by the Fédération Tunisienne des Sociétés d'Assurances (FTUSA), the motor business which accounts for 43.35% of the overall insurance volume has seen its technical deficit go down.

Being over 91 million TND (66.7 million USD) in 2003, the deficit has shrunk from 58.4 million TND (49.1 million USD) in 2004 to 42.6 million TND (31.2 million USD) in 2005.

The business's premium volume has on its part increased by 12.09%, rising from 275.3 million TND (231.4 million USD) in 2004 to 308.6 million TND (227 million USD) in 2005.

As to the amount of paid claims, it has reported an increase of 13.58% with 226.3 million TND (166.5 million USD) in 2005 against 199.3 million TND (167.5 million USD) in 2004.

These figures clearly underscore the leading role over the motor market by the Société Tunisienne d'Assurance et de Réassurance (STAR) which collected 91.5 million TND (67.5 million USD) in premiums and disbursed 85 million TND (62.5 million USD) in claims for 2005.
The other main motor insurers on the market are: AMI, Lloyd Tunisien and COMAR.
