The number of road deaths rose by 6.3% in 2014

According to figures recently released by the National Gendarmerie, the Algerian roads caused 3.984 deaths in 2014, a figure up by 6.29% compared to 2013. The number of injured people was 44 546 during the last year.

Of a total 24,000 accidents, taxis as well as vehicles transporting goods and passengers are responsible for 28% of claims and 37.6% of deaths.

It should be noted that, the three main causes of road accidents are driver’s misconduct resulting mainly from non-compliance with the rules of the road (84.73%), the pedestrians (6.18%) and the road condition (5.13%).
