The police is ruthless with bad drivers

Omani police has issued nearly 4 million fines last year on the roads. This figure seems surprising when compared to the population of 4 million people.
This strict policy is designed to decrease the number of road accidents’ victims. In 2013, 913 people have died in an accident while 10 802 others were injured. The bet is about to succeed if we rely on published statistics.

The first quarter of the current year shows a significant improvement: the number of accidents decreased by 24.4% and that of victims by 6.2%. The main offenses are due to speeding (83.7%), dangerous driving (2.4%), the non-use of seat belts (2.2%) and the use of mobile phone while driving (0.5%) .
