Towards liberalization of the Congolese insurance sector in 2019
Although it was promulgated in 2015, the liberalization of the Congolese insurance sector has not come into force yet. The insurance market in Congo (Kinshasa) has been monopolized by the National Insurance Company (SONAS) since 1966.
According to the Insurance Regulation and Control Authority (ARCA), which has been in operation since 2016, the first accreditations are set to be confirmed at the end of the first quarter of 2019. This latest postponement will provide SONAS with additional time to get modernized.
