Traffic accidents cost the country 248 million USD

The traffic accidents cost 248 million USD in 2009, that is, 2.3% of GDP, according to a survey conducted by the non-governmental organization Handicap International Belgium. This study distinguishes between five components in the claims: material costs (60 million USD), administrative costs (44 million USD), medical costs (18 million USD), human costs (73 million USD) and productivity loss (53 million USD). Motor mortality rate has reached 12.3 individuals for 10 000 inhabitants.
