Transatlantic has received a third takeover bid

After the offer made by the Swiss company Allied World Assurance Company Holdings in June and Validus counter-offer in July, it is now National Indemnity’ s turn to propose a bid for the takeover of the reinsurer Transatlantic. National Indemnity is an affiliate of Berkshire Hathaway. The bid pertains to all of the shares of Transatlantic Holdings which it valued at 3.25 billion USD. The American reinsurer posted a net loss of 109 million USD during the first half of 2011.
