Tunis Re is recovering

The Tunisian reinsurer’s 2012 operations have been marked by a 6.1% increase of its turnover after the 7% decline suffered a year earlier. Premiums written rose from 70 520 051 TND (47 175 093 USD) in 2011 to 74 850 746 TND (48 322 144 USD) in 2012. The gradual return of the economic activity and the underwriting growth on the Tunisian market are behind this performance.
Started in 2011, the retakaful activity has reported premiums worth 1 377 873 TND (889 527 USD) in 2012 against 852 476 TND (570 272 USD) during the previous fiscal year.
The year 2012 was also marked by a return to an ordinary loss experience, especially in fire insurance. The gross incurred loss has decreased by 31.7% to stand at 36 228 508 TND (23 388 400 USD) in 2012 compared to 53 050 687 TND (35 488 787 USD) in 2011. Financial income has reached 5 789 258 TND (3 737 429 USD).
