UAE: Significant drop in road deaths

According to statistics published by UAE's Ministry of Interior, the number of road deaths decreased by 34.2% in five years., from 712 in 2014 to 468 in 2018.

Despite a significant increase in the car fleet, the serious traffic accidents fell by 24.1% at 3712 in 2018 against 4895 five years earlier.

Distracted driving and excessive speeding are among the main causes of road deaths. In 2018, 13% of deaths were accounted for by distracted driving.

To address this scourge, public authorities have reinforced the traffic control and awareness campaigns in the country, which explains the results recorded today.
