Worrying figures on smartphone use behind the wheel

smartphones while drivingThe AXA Prevention Barometer of French road safety reveals that 80% of drivers admitted using their smartphones while driving in 2022. This rate has increased by 11% over one year.

The study shows that 52% of respondents make calls while driving, 45% use the GPS, 34% text messages, 24% check notifications and 8% post stories on social media.

More seriously, many drivers work while behind the wheel. For example, 15% of respondents say they send emails while driving and 6% attend business meetings while driving.

The smartphone on the road phenomenon does not only affect drivers. According to AXA Prevention, 72% of cyclists and 84% of electric scooter riders use their phones while driving.
